This was an incredible book! I won it from Goodreads, and was so glad that I did because this book is just so sophisticated and beautifully written. It is the story of an Italian woman and her Serajevan husband who are unable to conceive due to infertility. The book takes you on their journey through flashbacks detailing their life together, as well as the woman's personal journey years after the war. The book takes place in both Italy and Sarajevo during the war and afterwards. It is fiction, but it is so real and raw--it is just heartbreaking in some parts. This is a story that uncovers what it is like to love another person, what it is like to live through the violence and tragedy of war, what it means to be a human being. I was just so impressed by this author's writing! The book is an international bestseller, and it is easy to see why.
