Deresiewicz writes chapters on each of six Jane Austen novels and relates what he learned from each of them to his own life. He was a graduate student, studying 19th century literature, when he was assigned Jane Austen. He was a reluctant reader in the beginning. He does a good job of distilling what he found important in each novel that provided basic life lessons for him. I enjoyed the book very much. Now, I want to read Austen all over again!
