So in the interest of full disclosure I don't read mystery novels ever. I think this is pretty much my first since the Boxcar Children from elementary school. So it's possible that mystery novels are just not for me however I was disappointed with this book.
I'm going to start with the writing and especially the dialogue. It just didn't work for me. I was reading dialogue between characters and it all sounds so cheesy and unnatural.
As far as Clare the priest goes I find her highly unlikeable. There are just so many instances especially her interactions with the Police Chief that are just not okay. For example the scene where she goes to this mans house with a 6 pack of beer. She finds out he's a recovering alcoholic and proceeds to drink 3 of the beers in front of him. Then the issue is if she should drive in the snow... the snow. No issue about the fact that she's just drank 3 beers and shouldn't drive because of that... oh and did I mention she's with the police chief and still no concern about drinking and driving just the snow. Plus what kind of a priest finds out a man is a recovering alcoholic and then proceeds to drink three beers in front of him?
Also at the fellowship hour when they pulled out a bottle of Sherry. I'm not Episcopalian (methodist we use grape juice on sundays) but something about that just didn't ring true. I'm going to be asking some of my Episcopalian friends about this.
Also it was kind of predictable. They're trying to hard to make it look like certain characters committed the crime so you know it's not them maybe that's just what you do in mystery novels. I don't know.
Maybe I'll try the next one and see if I can be won over. The good news is it's a super fast read so not to much time and energy exerted.

Thank you for your notes. I think I'll stay away from it.
