Turns out I read this years ago. I believe it was right after I moved to Germany and the birth of my daughter, both of which I'm going to use as excuses as to why I didn't remember.

The Dark Room deals in a very unemotional way with an extremely emotional issue - namely WWII and the Holocaust. It was a very unsentimental book which I appreciated, but a bit too sparse. I wanted more depth and personal insight, not just a narration of action. That's why I only gave it 3 stars.

14.0% "Started this book without knowing much about it. So far the first story (3 short stories make up the book - or so I've heard) is set up like a documentary. Short narrative sentences - 3rd person with no insight into character's feelings. Not my favorite type of writing, but am intrigued enough to continue."
