rameau Ah, the melodrama. Or is that just in the films?

Věrka I never really watched any of them, so I wouldn't know. I'll keep you updated. What can you expect from this kind of book, anyway? ;)

message 3: by rameau (new)

rameau I think I've seen three versions of the film, or bits and pieces at least, and not one of them has made me want to read the book.

Věrka I don't believe in film adaptations of Russian literature. I don't think it's really possible to capture the mood and the feel of the writing. Films can retell the story, but that's usually not the most important thing to me.

message 5: by Michelle (new)

Michelle I saw the ITV adaptation, which had a young Keira Keighley in it, and then tried to read the book but found it deathly boring and gave up. Twice.

rameau Keira Knightley's version is actually the one I haven't sat through. Parents got the dvd and I saw bits, but I ran away in the middle.
