I borrowed this book from a friend because I saw the movie preview and became so excited that I was unable to wait for the movie to come out. Bringing Down the House was a quick, fun read. I think I will benefit from having read it when I see the movie, too. However, learning about the hot spy tricks is not going to benefit me at the casino. I may have gone through a card trick phase and almost learned the "Hindu shuffle," but I know my limits. I'm no card counter.

The writing is what it is. I don't really see the need to make a metaphor out of sushi rolls sitting out in a college apartment in a book about gambling, but whatever. Each chapter takes approximately a minute and a half to read, which is just as well.

One unpleasant surprise that resulted from this book - I now have a complex about sexual debauchery in Vegas. I personally have never been to Vegas, but I have taken a guy to a strip club for his birthday with virtually no discomfort. So perhaps the solution f...more
