I didn't really need to hear anyone formally refute Spong, as I had already categorized him as elitist and outrageously heretical, but since I rarely read anything from an Episcopal point of view I thought this might be interesting. It was, for unexpected reasons.

Despite Spong's thoroughly modernist underpinnings, I believe he shares some similar theological convictions and a common trajectory with some of the more liberal (or conversational, if you prefer) Emergent luminaries. Given that, many of the arguments employed here are still very useful in assessing figures like Brian McLaren.
