really liked it

This started off a little slow, but only because I was trying to take in everything new about the world. It didn't take long to take off, and it became very hard to stop reading. The story kept twisting and turning and I was genuinely surprised by the big reveal at the end (but I'm generally easily surprised anyway, I don't really look into stories that deeply).

There are aspects of the world itself that would probably fall apart if I really dug into it, like the fact the inhabitants are in this valley and never leave it, though they are connect to the sea and I'm sure some of them left the valley that way. A wider world is hinted at, and there is a sense of smallness to the valley that reminds me of medieval times when it wasn't so easy to just get up and leave a place you've lived all your life. I got a real feel for the place and it felt believable. It was also balanced nicely between humor, action scenes, and even some truly suspenseful and terrifying ones.
