"The Gold Bug" is not altogether great, but it's not bad either. Spending most of its time focusing on the mental state of one of the main characters, the story drastically shifts to that of Captain Kidd and his treasure.
The story does not have the greatest flow, but historically, as many have mentioned, this is a story that set the table for many of its kind. This, however, does not make the story great.
A very average story.
