Loved the premise, the research, the details, the 'spin' on these myths and legends. I was encouraged by Ms. Harkness' credentials. She's meticulous and it shows. I wanted to hear much more about the history of Matthew & the Bishop family - I was enchanted by the backstories! Would have probably gotten a FIVE from me

But.

This the kind of book I find most frustrating - a fun premise, well-researched, detailed and realistic, terrific promise...
and then it gets all mucked up with unrealistic, outlandishly contrived romance. This is just like Twilight for adults. Sigh.

Won't someone please write a fantastic mystery/thriller/fantasy book that doesn't involve heaving chests and professions of undying love after three weeks?!
I can only suspend disbelief so much.
This is pushing it.
