Read in April, 2011

A recently-deceased narrator, a hapless tour-group of Americans exploring Burma, and a traumatised tribe hiding out in the jungle from Burma's totalitarian regime that is perpetrating a holocaust on the Karen people. It doesn't sound like it's going to be fun, but it is. Mostly for the gleeful manner in which Tan uses the tourists as a device to point out the Free World's willful blindness, insensitivity and lack of action.
