For all of its flaws, I agree with Julie Taymor that Titus, because we currently live in a world where graphic violence comes to us via our televisions and newspapers, feels oddly relevant to a modern reader. Does that make it 'good'? No, not yet, it's clumsy and the tragedy is less poignant for coming in from all points. But, sheez, I live in a world where someone thought it would be a good idea to remake 'I Spit Upon Your Grave;' the violence doesn't seem outdated or implausible to me, sadly.
