This is a great book about the Berlin Airlift after WWII and specifically the "Candy Bomber." It is a children's book (about a 4th grade level) and it will only take an adult about 30 minutes or so to read. But it was interesting, touching, full of pictures and personal details that added to the story I'd learned in school.

I was drawn to this book because Gail Halvorsen (the "Candy Bomber") was a close friend of my grandparents and his wife was my grandma's childhood friend. Gail even came to my wedding reception. I wish I'd known then all the wonderful things about him that I know now. What an inspirational story about true American hero.

I would recommend this book to anyone and I think it would be a great one to have your children read next time they have to choose a biographical or historical book for their book report :)
