really liked it

At first I was put off by this book because of the too-technical-for-me chemical formulas and discussion. I finally realized that I could just skip that part of each chapter--and the rest was quite interesting. The writing wasn't always great; the parts that summarized and linked to the next chapter seemed especially perfunctory, but the topics were great. Salt, the pill, tin, pepper and other spices, silk and more. Origins, discoveries, econimic impact, etc.
