Troy is a 300 pound fat kid who tries to step off a train platform at the beginning of this book. According to him, his life sucks because everyone just sees him as the fat kid. Up until this point in his life Kurt has a lousy relationship with everybody until he meets Kurt. Kurt is a pill-popping addict, who use to be popular in high school, and is in a band. Kurt saves Troy's life on the train platform and the two end up becoming friends and Kurt convinces Troy to be the drummer of his band, even though Troy has not touched the drums since he was in 7th grade. Troy thinks that being in a band will help people learn to accept him for who he is, rather than just being the fat kid. Overall it was a great story, but geez we get it, he's the fat kid. That phrase was repeated so much, it was annoying. I would recommend this book to any young adult, but particularly those who are feeling bad about there weight and want to see a different future for themselves.
