Dr. Etherington hates windmills, or more correctly wind turbine generators. The science is well researched and clearly stated, but I can't help feeling that this tirade against renewable energy is mis-placed. After all, what has motor transport done for the aesthetic beauty of the countryside. No one wants to ban the car, because it is useful. Not many people, it seems, see renewable energy as useful; but as events will show, it will become useful in due course.

Renewable energy in the form of WTGs will never become base-load providers of electricity, but Dr. Etherington nowhere mentions the Super Grid, which will allow the switching around of generating resources to match loads. He does not really go into the benefits of offshore wind, preferring to lambaste the concept of onshore wind as a destroyer of the environment.

So, Dr. Etherington. Let's continue in the old ways; Dig up coal, creating massive eyesores of waste dumps. Mine for gas by pumping poisons into the earth. Risk massive pollution drilling for oil in deep waters. Make huge areas uninhabitable when nuclear disaster strilkes, or pass on the problem of waste disposal to future generations.

What is your solution, Dr. Etherington?
