This was the 1951 Newbery winner, and you can tell by it's gentle themes and the simplicity of the world in which siblings Jerry and Racheal live out their lives. This book would be appropriate for younger children and is nothing too gripping, but beware. . . your kids will probably want a dog after reading this book (the title is the dog's name). One good point, the sibling relationship in this book is really positive (a scarcity according to another book I'm reading right now called Nurture Shock.
