Big Fish

Sometimes the movie is way better than the book.
I liked how this book was presented--as a collection of short stories about one man's life. We are all made up of our memories and the stories that we tell about those memories.
The big issue I had with this book is that, despite all these stories, I never really identified with the main character. Everything was presented in kind of an abstract, embellished, joking way, and I did not often feel things along with Edward.
The movie based on this book did an excellent job of stringing these stories together and adding more feeling to them. It made you care about the characters more. Plus, I discovered that my favorite scene in the movie wasn't actually in the book, which can always take things down a few notches.
Still, I recommend this book to anyone who has an afternoon (it is very short) and enjoys using the quirkier parts of his/her imagination.

Um, spoiler alert... :)My favorite scene was the funeral at the end, where Will realizes that his dad really did live an extraordinary life and meet all of these extraordinary people (if embellished a little).
My second-favorite scene was a very visual thing: Edward and Sandra in that field of yellow daffodils. Of course, this isn't in the book, but neither is much of the courtship.
It's not often that the movie outshines the book in terms of visuals, but this movie did it in spades.
