really liked it
bookshelves: thriller-mystery-suspense
Read in February, 2011

Another in the Elvis Cole / Joe Pike series, this one focusing on Joe Pike. I love these books - Robert Crais writes well, they have a vivid sense of place (L.A.), the characters are guys one likes and enjoys spending time with, and he's reasonably talented in plotting. But even at a fairly respectible 306 pages, this felt too short. If you're going to write a compulsively readable mystery / suspense, go for it! Shoot for more! better! longer! Not the first time I've thought this with Mr. Crais's books. I respect how difficult it must be to come up with complex plotting; but still... just sayin'.
