This is the first book I read about V.I. Warshawski and I enjoyed it. It was very interesting to see the parallel between the blacklist communist era and today. Even though this book was more of a critique and warning to today's terrorist hunters, it still gave both points of view and how the debate can be conflicting when your world view is not black and white.

Because the rich old ladies all seemed the same, more than once I was confused with the characters especially as to which one did what. The ending was bitter-sweet with the unraveling of the mystery you can see the motive for the original murder was so weak. To top it off another murder was committed by the same perpetrator and she might get away with it thanks to money and political influence.

Still, I look forward in reading more about V.I. Warshawski and Sara Paretsky.
