** spoiler alert ** I had thought about reading this book every once in awhile since I was 12 years old, and I kept seeing the movie in the video store and kept swearing I'd read the book first, and so on and on, then 20 years went by and I finally got around to it. Not worth the wait. I thought the beginning was spooky, with Nazi's getting their shit ripped up by a mysterious something in an old castle (I mean "old keep"), but then it got kind of boring, the characters were too cliche, I really hated the heroine, the bad guy wasn't scary enough, etc. Then it got good again when the bad guy finally started killing people, using reanimated Nazi corpses to do it, then it was just dumb and cheesy again until the predictable ending -- good guy wins and gets not only his humanity back, but the annoying girl too. One and a half stars.
