Stargirl. She reminds us of that wierd girl or boy that every high school has. The one that doesn't seem to fit into any clique. The one who doesn't mind that she is different. Stargirl embraces her individuality. This novel brings individuality into a new light. Why do we always shy away from the ones who stand out? Why can't students all get along? Why must we all conform to what is "cool" or "in"? Why can't we all be who we really are?
I fell in love with this novel. It brings to much to light. I feel that students who read this may see what I saw (one could hope). I would gladly teach this novel to my middle school students. I think that they can benefit from it in more ways than one. It brings individuality into a new light. I think that this could be taught hand in hand with the more recent anti-bullying policies that have been put into place across the nation.
