** spoiler alert ** When I began reading this to my 4 year old, I thought, "oh boy, this is a little tedious. Maybe this one will have to be buried somewhere." And it is a little tedious to read. I also don't love the way some of the animals interact with each other. But by the end, it totally redeems itself with a wonderful message that's very in line with my parenting philosophy. Turns out, little Growl Bear goes around growling everywhere only because he doesn't yet know how to speak. And when the rest of the forest animals learn this, they ease up on him and act as friends. This is great for teaching my boy about tolerating his little brother's more annoying actions, because little brother just doesn't have the 'language' yet for asking for things or moderating his own behavior.

In the end, I don't love reading the book, but the message is so great that I have to give it 4 stars.
