Sue Grafton's P is for Peril, the Pth [aka 17th] in the series of her alphabet books featuring PI Kinsey Milhone. It was my first encounter. The stories are told in the first person, from Kinsey's point of view, and the tale of the missing or deceased doctor and the unravelling of his past and two marriages and business life is nicely intertwined with Kinsey rather routine personal life. Entertaining, leaving one wanting to read the next one.
