No flinching here. Tightly focused view through the eyes of an EMT working the toughest areas of Harlem in the early 90s. Narrative locks into place through a nonstop series of graphic work-related scenes and images, written with a perfect dose of realism that doesn’t try to shock so much as relay a genuine slice of hell. What binds it all together, at least for me, is the protag’s awareness of what’s happening to him over the course of the novel. Quick, vivid read, provided by a really good writer.
