really liked it
bookshelves: adult-fantasy
Read in April, 2011

I told a friend recently that I'd like Jane Austen if there was magic in her books, fantasy fan that I am, and here's Jane Austen with magic. And I liked it. 3.75 stars;) Clean read, amusing.

I really liked how magic was just another skill that privileged young ladies should aspire to, and the descriptions of manipulating the ether. I think the climax was way more climactic than Austen could have dared, but I liked it.

Not sure where the "Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrel" comparisons are coming from- they're in England, there's magic- but you might as well compare it to Harry Potter.
