This Pulitzer Prize winner is a wonderful short story collection revolving around the central figure of Olive Kitteridge – a retired school teacher, at times patient and perceptive, other times blunt and temperamental, but all the time, plainly human. The stories are insightful and though sometime depressing, provides a picture of life in small town Maine, a microcosm of life as the reader would experience wherever they live. The description of old age and coping are perceptive and touching. It is one of those books that I might just want to re-read.
