Isabella L.Bird was fearless and courageous--and maybe just a little crazy. Back when the west was still rather wild, she traveled around the Rockies--by herself on a borrowed pony. She trotted out in snowstorms and in weather so frigid her eyelids froze together.

She described the glorious scenery of the wilderness and the hardy folks who settled there in the letters she sent home to her sister in England.

This book is an amazing look back to a time when travel was not for the fainthearted.
