A precocious child detective (eleven, to be exact), supremely intelligent, fascinated by murder and chemistry (thereby with poison large and small), living in a dilapidated mansion in a village somewhere in England, in the 1940s.

Well-written. Flavia is a fascinating character, at once innocent and naive, yet old far beyond her years. Highly recommended!
