Of the four Dick & Felix Francis novels, this was the best so far for me. Felix is still not as good a story teller as his dad, but he's maybe getting there. I liked the use of the military as structural commentary throughout, much like his dad used his main character's careers. There was good suspense and action and tracking down the bad guys. But not enough love of and insight into horses and racing as his dad used to add, even though the setting of this story is a racing stable. And there still isn't quite enough goodness and good people in the story--one of the things that attracted me to Dick Francis as a writer--but maybe that will come as Felix experiences more life and living. I enjoyed this novel and maybe I should stop making comparisons--but then maybe Felix should stop adding his dad as a co-author, Since Dick Francis died in February 2010, I guess that will happen.
