Being a publishers rep I find myself reading a lot of things that I am not even admitting having read, so it is a great pleasure to read a literary master like Peter Carey. Such terrifically developed characters with a solid basis in history. This reader clearly favored Parrot over Olivier in terms of narrative and character development, but Carey brings even the Parrot fans around to root for Olivier as the novel progresses and Olivier matures. Parrot & Olivier in America deserves a print version, its a keeper.
