Read from April 19 to 23, 2011

Tangential story threads are woven to a climax as various characters cross paths each while on their own mission: saving a child from a drug-addict mother, a P.I. trying to find out the true story behind an adopted woman's origins, and regrets and pontification on the purpose of life and one's accomplishments toward the purpose and whether it's to late to understand the purpose. More philisophical than one might notice at first read, there's even a book club reading guide available for further discussion. I'm not sure I liked it, I'm not sure I didn't like it. The characters were interesting, the wrtining well executed, and the book remained fairly nonjudgmental about the characters' choices and actions, perhaps nudging the reader toward understanding that much of life is shades of grey, not black and white.
