As a great admirer of Roman Polanski's work, now more than a decade ago,I went to see the movie and instantly felt in love with it...
The book ( I read it many years later ,when it was finally published in croatian),was the ''naturalistic observation''of the romantic, love affair at the very beginning to develop into sadomasochism and painful experience of protagonists at the end.. Even it is hard to read some pages, reader becomes aware of fragile human mind and soul... Yes, most readers may think that ''normal'' people would never reach this point of madness which I would rather name as the certain state of mind. In my opinion it is more realistic than it seems.... Aren't we all go to some extremes sometimes when we are loved or hated?
