i liked this book but i had some problems with it. i hated the ending for one thing. something happened in the last three pages that just totally lost me. the tone of writing changed or maybe vladimir assumed the readers where seeing what he could. [i did not. i didn't fully understand what i had read, although i read it over a few times.] i felt left out and let down by the ending.

i read this novel, never assuming it was going to be that great. perhaps it was only out of curiosity that i picked it up in the first place. either way, it was good but certainly not that great.

DB Laughter in the Dark was written in 1932, Lolita was written in 1955. Lolita wasnt yet a "hit" with which he could "pump out" for the "masses".

Sara you're right. i honestly have no idea why i didn't check out the dates on each book. i may have just assumed because of the order i read them in. [which clearly make no sense...] regardless, i edited out the last paragraph of my entry so i don't confuse anyone else.
