I was so excited to read this book, I thought it would be light and fun. However, after 70 pages I was still not engaged. In fact, I often found my mind wondering and would realize I had read an entire page without knowing what it about. This usually happens during dense non-fiction or classic literature for me (and my mind wonders while thinking about what I'm reading). It is not meant to happen in a light, modern version of Sense and Sensibility. There was no pacing, and even though it was a study of the characters -- there was no progression in them, even almost 100 pages into the book. Annie was my favorite, and every time the author started going somewhere with her story my hopes would get up... only to have to author deviate and shut down that plot.
I decided to move on. There are too many great books waiting to be read. Even though I haven't read any books by this author, I enjoyed The Love Letter movie version, so was hoping I would like her writing as well.
