really liked it
Read in January, 2008

I really only read this in order to reward myself with a peach bellini at the end for a pseudo-reading club where you drink the author's supposed favorite cocktail while discussing one of his or her novels. Everyone else dropped out, saying it was a horrible and boring read that they couldn't get through. I'll admit it was hard at first, but it gained momentum and was a brilliant look at industrial America, and I now see Babbitt everywhere. The promise of the bellini got me over the initial tough spots, but the writing soon took over and I really enjoyed it. I have yet to have my bellini, partially out of guilt for using alcohol as a reward for reading, and partially because the book was so good I just forgot about it for a while. We'll see if I ever get to it.
