This novel introduces El Leo's recurring character Carlos Webster. Fans of the TV series "Justified" may think the lead is all Raylan Givens, but I think he's more Carlos Webster. Both wear cowboy hats, but only one shot a guy off his horse from a crop field away.

It also contains one of the most classic lines in crime fiction history: "He's got a hard bark about him."

For those two reasons alone, pick up "The Hot Kid." The rest is all gravy, and it ain't from a can. This is made-from-scratch crime fiction goodness.
