I have given up on this book for the second time. It is very thorough, but lacks events and is very detailed. I know that some day that I will come back and finish it, as it is a very good book.

I have finally finished Chris Wickham's great book. It was hard going at times, but it is a brilliant book. It tackles the difficult topics of social and economic history, which though very important are not as easy to read as factual history. This book has given me the best understanding so far of the origins of Feudalism, how it was necessary in it's times and how it evolved.
