Once in a while a book comes along that is capable of altering a readers philosophical foundations. For me, To The Lighthouse has accomplished this and given me new perspectives on the human condition and what life is all about. Woolf's prose is stunning. Her descriptions of the dilapidation of the house in the second chapter inspire and move a reader to the core. I did have difficulty following some of the transitions between the consciousness of the different characters. You always know a book was something special when one reaches the last page and has an overwhelming urge to turn back to page one and experience the whole thing over again.
