This book is as slick as Chandler, and the tone is reminiscent of a crime thriller, with choppy professional relationships defined by jaded yet witty repartee. The difference is its got faeries and trolls, and science fiction stuff like time-bombs and tribarrel lasers. If you don't want to read it already, it's got a sweetness to it as well, with a nice happy ending.

I feel stingy going with three stars. The writing was fun, the story whimsical, but it was hard to become too deeply invested in the outcome. The magic was so overflowingly abundant, that I was sure everything would work itself out. The bad guys were nice, underneath their hard exterior. Still, I looked it up, and was excited to learn that there are sequels.
