This is a lovely book with humor (the Prime Minister is writing a dictionary and wants to put "fried fish" as the definition of "delicious"), suspense concerning a race against time and a sinister villain, and interesting fantasy creatures hiding an ancient mystery that can save the kingdom. Our hero is a kindly, mild-mannered boy of 12 who shows persistence and bravery and saves the day, of course. Not too long, not too violent, not too hard to understand... in fact, just right.
