I just won this book through First Reads - can't wait to receive it!

Let me start out by stating that I haven't read Louv's first book, but when I saw this one listed through the Good Reads Giveaway, I jumped at the chance to win a copy. We just moved, along with our three young sons, from a tract home in a planned subdivision to a 10 acre mini-farm - complete with goats and chickens. We are in the process of building a home off the grid and this just seemed like something that would be a great companion read for our journey to nature.

I enjoyed Louv's discussion of how we, as a society and on an individual level, could connect with nature on so many levels through the use of anecdotes, studies, and other descriptive methods. To create smaller communities, to live off the land using smaller, local farms, to telecommute (which my husband is able to do 2 days a week), etc. Though, something just can't be done through the telecommuting method - try getting your hair cut that way. Some things just didn't seem practical on a grand scale because people are just not going to do it or allow the government to dictate how we should do it. But, the notions put forth by Louv were very inspiring and helpful.

I plan to read Louv's first book since so many reviews referred to that one as being a wonderful read as well. I also recommend this book to others who have made a conscious decision to get back to nature and to those who think it's all 'tree hugging non-sense'. Maybe they will discover something they didn't understand before.
