Plummeting to love’s greatest depths; Sparks creates imperfect characters which are perfect for each other. Capturing the hopeless romantic in his fluid writing, Nicholas Sparks creates a story revolving around love and loss. As a “Message in a Bottle” unites Garrett Blake and Theresa Osborne, life’s problems hinder their relationship from growing stronger. Twisting his novel, Sparks creates a scenario in which both characters carry personal baggage and secrets. After publishing Garrett’s letters about his deceased lover, Theresa is afraid to expose the real reason why she met him. Conversely, Garrett feels he’s betraying his old lover by falling for Theresa. Creating tension for the reader, the author crafts his novel so the reader remains surprised until the novel’s end. Although the author creates an unlikely plot, Sparks realistically characterizes two confused; frustrated people who are nonetheless irrevocably in love. Excruciatingly emotional and infused with suspense, Sparks effectively uses his writing ability to entrance his reader. Drenching his reader waist deep in his memorable love novel, “Message in a Bottle” is captivating for the reader thirsting for romance.
