Written by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor "Shiloh" is a John Newberry Gold Medal Winner. This a power story written through the eyes Marty Preston, a young boy, who live in the country and while out walking down the dirt road one day, comes across a beagle. At first Marty isn't sure what the beagle is up too but soon the little dog is following Marty. When it is discovered that the dog belongs to Judd Travers, one of his neighbors, and that the dog has been abused. Marty gets obsessed about the little dog, and since Judd failed to name it, he names it Shiloh, he builds a dog pen in the woods and decides to keep it hidden out of sight, without telling anyone. However, what he has done is steal the dog and here is where the story takes several plot twists and Marty is faced with some tough decisions.

It is a wonderful read and an easy read, for anyone nine years old and older.
