My feelings are as confused as the writing of this book. It took me a while to get used to the author's style of writing. Sometimes there were beautiful passages, almost poetic and others there were things that didn’t make any sense to me. I’m not usually emotionally affected by these kind of books written in a simplistic manner, raising the question, without going too deeply. And my opinion hasn’t changed after finishing reading the book. Nonetheless, I think this is a book rich in symbolisms, specially the tree, and that’s what captured my attention the most. The best part was when Melinda finally released the silent scream kept inside herself for so long and faced her FEAR. I think we all keep a silent scream within ourselves, and I’m sure many people can identify themselves with her character.

The ending was rushed, which contributed a little to my feeling that it came out as a bit unrealistic. Probably because the real problem of which Melinda refuses to speak of is never really addressed, and the characters and plot felt undeveloped. But there are definitely some parts right on about what Melinda was going through alone, and what life is in High School. In short, it was a fast read, too fast for my taste, there were too many things missing.
