really liked it

That great overlapping immersing Greene style...hard to follow in spots (especially for a mere Yank), but all the more engaging once you finally do grab on. Only problem was the ending seemed a bit conventional, and a letdown. Once again we have to deal with Greene's distinction between his novels and "entertainments" (the only guy I've ever seen who gets that snobby about his own work). One of the characters in the book is based upon the popular novelist J B Priestley; at least, that's apparently what he thought, as he forced the publisher to force Greene to change several characteristics of said character before publication.
