Maverick (Elite Ops, #2)

My Review:
OMG, I loved this book! For me, the emotional connection between Micah & Risa was phenomenal. I cried several times throughout the final pages of their book- I was that emotionally involved with them and their gorgeous love story.
Micah is an ice-cold, hardened operative out for revenge against Orion who murdered his parents, both operatives in their own right. He signed his life away to Elite Ops after being wounded by Orion to gain that right. Revenge and the mission have been his whole focus ever since, except for the rare moments when he has caught sight of Risa over the years- she intrigues him.
Risa has been part of the series from the very beginning. At the age of 16, her father betrayed her, had her drugged & raped, and then institutionalized her for another year and a half. She's never been close, either emotionally or physically, in the six years since she escaped her father's psychotic abuse. Now there is a $2 million price on her head and Orion is out to claim it. She needs protection and Micah volunteers to act as her boyfriend to provide that protection for her.
I really loved the way that Lora Leigh approached this story and all the emotions involved in it. I think that I can honestly say that this is the first time I have read a sex scene in a romance novel go so incredibly bad, but it was so realistic in the emotions of it. The whole books is brilliantly written with great little side scenes throughout- Micah & the pull of his loyalty to his cousin, Bailey; Jordan & Tehya and the frisson between them; even the scenes with Risa & her childhood friend Mac. For me, everything was just perfectly placed. An absolutely great book!
