Keith Richards 'Life' published 2010, is a five hundred and fifty page door stopper of a book. Who would have thought that Keef has five hundred and fifty pages of memory cells intact! The Stones have been part of the sound-scape of my life for almost the past fifty years, yet this is the first time I've read an insiders biog of the band, yet as the book title states, this is Keith's life story more than the Rolling Stones story. Jagger and Watts are clearly integral parts of the band but I found it strange how little Brian Jones features in this story. Wyman hardly at all. The many session musicians occupy more lines than these original band members.
The Glimmer Twin rock star, dope smokin' pill poppin', acid trippin', coke blowin', Bourbon swillin' heroin addicted anti-establishment icon, where the press has had the obituary written up since the sixties, has outrun most in the music business. It's another world. Someone who has been busted, in possession of the quantities of narcotics that K.R. has, would normally be incarcerated for an extra special long time, yet this stoned Stone has remained behind bars just over twenty four hours. What is also amazing, as the reader discovers, here is a warm hearted, considerate, level headed family man. The rest is only rock and roll.......but I like it.
