More YA literature! This was energetic, believable, and fun. There are even humorous footnotes, which I LOVE. The downside is that it has what I think of as the Freaks and Geeks problem. Yes, it's very true to what life in high school is like . . . to the point where it's actually kind of painful. The Boyfriend List isn't as depressing as Freaks and Geeks, because Ruby remains funny and fairly cheerful in spite of hideous high school drama, but the ways people were cruel to her made me really angry, because it was very much how people are cruel to each other in high school. The only thing about the book that rings really false is the characterization of Ruby's parents. Ruby and the kids she knows are colorful but realistic, but her parents are just cartoons. Ruby's great, though. I will now proceed to read all the rest of the Ruby books.
