Sasspants and Hamisher are back in their third mystery! Hamisher has taken up reading (and soda pop) and thinks their detective “agency” needs a catchphrase (he comes up with ‘something is on my foot!’). Mr. Venezi (the owner of the pet shop) is looking for extra help – specifically, he’d like someone who can label all of the animals correctly (who doesn’t have the same last name, because he’s easily confused). Sasspants and Hamisher decide to help him out (and keep any new employees from changing things around the shop) by re-labeling everyone. They do a great job, but someone ruins all of their hard work by altering the tags (chinchillas get changed into gorillas and then Godzilla and so on). Now there really is a mystery to solve – who is the culprit and why are they doing it?

This is a fun and funny installment (as good as the first entry) in this series. The characters are really starting to come into their own individual personalities, and there’s plenty of slapstick humor (on multiple levels) that will appeal to both children and adults. Hamisher provides some background information at the end about ferrets and words commonly used in mysteries (mysterious terms) – informative and interesting! Stephanie Yue’s full-color illustrations are brilliant – cute and expressive. Most enjoyable!
